The Superfast Galicia

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago chartered the MV Superfast Galicia in May 2014. The Superfast Galicia is a conventional Roll on/Roll off vessel designated to transport cargo between the islands. The vessel was built in 2002 and is approximately 160m in length with a draft of 6.5m. The voyage takes approximately 5 hours with the vessel departing Port of Spain, Mondays to Fridays at 2:00 p.m. and Scarborough at 11:00 p.m. There are no sailings on Saturdays. On Sundays, the vessel departs Port of Spain at 11:00 a.m. and Scarborough at 11:00 p.m.

  • Are there any limitations as to the type of goods that can be transported on the Warrior Spirit?
  • There are few restrictions, among these propane gases and flammable liquids.
  • Are corpses accommodated on this vessel?
  • Yes, they are. However the Health and Safety Offices, located in the Port of Spain and Scarborough Ferry Terminals and must be notified in advance.  The corpse must be placed in an appropriate ‘container’ and in a vehicle for transportation.
  • Are there any facilities for the transportation of frozen goods?
  • There are two 20ft. reefer containers on the vessel. However, these are only rented to customers with the capacity to fill them. The cost of this facility is $150.00 plus VAT. The demand for these containers is often overwhelming, therefore it is advised that persons wishing to avail themselves of this facility check with the Operations Manager in advance.
  • I am building a house in Tobago and want to transport all building materials to the island. How can I do this?
  • Materials can be transported on trucks. The rates are based on the MGW (loaded) and the TARE (unloaded). The cost of the Driver’s ticket is $37.50 (one way). An alternative is the rental of a flat bed, however this should be done in advance.
  • How do I go about sending a 20ft. or 40ft. container?
  • The following are the costs associated with this service:
    • Under 4 tonnes, you will be required to rent a flat bed and container lift
      • Cost of a flat bed for a 40’ container is TT $300.00 + $45.00 (VAT)  (one way)
        Cost of a lift is TT $100.00 + $15.00 (VAT)  (one way)
    • Cost of a flat bed for a 20’ container is TT$150.00 + $22.50 (VAT)  (one way)
    • Cost of a  Lift  for a 20’ container is TT$100.00 + $15.00 (VAT) (one way)
    • Over 4 tonnes you are required to visit the front office and purchase a trailer ticket
      • Cost of a trailer ticket  for a 40’ container is  TT$1,800.00 (one way)
      • Cost of a trailer ticket for a 20’ container is TT$1,300.00 (one way)
    • The cost of the trailer is dependant on the MGW of the trailer:
      • MGW of a 20ft  trailer is approximately 23,000 kg. - Cost:  $970.00 + $145.50 (VAT) + $37.50 for the Driver
      • MGW for a 40 ft. trailer is approximately 34,000 kg. - Cost:  $1450.00 +  $217.50 (VAT) + 37.50 for the driver
